Actor Kantha Rao is the only hero in Tollywood, who has acted in more than 400 films in Tollywood, after Late NT Rama Rao. Born in 1923, actor Kantha Rao became a lead actor in early 1960’s and thus was counted alongside the stalwarts such as Jaggaiah, NTR and ANR, due to his successful career. Kantha Rao was seen mostly in characters such as Narada, Lord Krishna, Arjuna, Panduraj and Lakshmana. Kantha Rao was the first choice for the great director Vittalacharya, who was a maverick in creating mythological characters. Mr. Rao had less interest in playing lover boy roles and had received rastrapathi award for his Lakshmana character in ‘Lava Kusa’. He was awarded with a nandi award for his self penned story ‘Anaganaga Oka Raakumarudu’ in 2007. In the year 2009, actor Kantha Rao suffered with cancer and due to lack of financial support he died in yashoda hospital in Hyderabadon March 22nd at 9:53pm.
